Weeks #8 – #14

I’ve updated the stats, standings, and schedule above. As you can see from the week numbers in the stats, several weeks’ worth of data were lost when the league office didn’t send them out for some reason. And when they did, it was often late, which got me out of sync, so I haven’t posted a recap in a while.
A couple of highlights:
A big “thank you” to the Rookie for playing in the 12/14 match at the Cardinal Club. He got about five minutes’ notice that we needed him to play and he came through for us.
The 12/21 match vs. Hideaway was only a 7-6 win, but it could have been much worse. We started out in the hole 0-3, and fighting our way back was satisfying. That said, they’re too good a team to start out poorly against them again. Next time we might not be so fortunate.
The 1/11 match against the Dart Fellas was officially postponed due to snow. The problem was, that the e-mail announcing this was sent out after 5 pm, so no one got it. We all showed up to play, because the first snowflake wasn’t set to fall until 10 pm or so, only to find out that we didn’t have to come.
The second problem was that one of our teammates plows snow and took the night off to be ready. The third problem was that he didn’t tell anybody about this plan. (And no, he didn’t get the cancellation e-mail either.) Now, this guy is always late, so we weren’t concerned that everyone was there except him. So, we decided to play anyway. At 8 o’clock, when the match was supposed to begin, we called him and found out the story.
We tried getting in touch with both of our subs, but neither one was at home—some snow emergency, huh?—and eventually Blondie volunteered to play.
Now, in retrospect, maybe we should have made up the game at the end of the season. But that’s easy to say when you see that we lost 9-4. In reality, we didn’t lose because Blondie subbed for a regular, we lost because our regulars didn’t play well enough. (Which you can’t see, because that week’s data is lost.)
Anyway, that dropped us into a tie for first place with the Dart Fellas, and in the last couple of weeks we’ve dropped back one game in the standings.
We need to do serious damage against Harry O’s tonight heading into our final regular season match against the Dart Fellas next week. If we can get four or five games up on them, we’ll have a chance to take control of the league in our head-to-head showdown.
