Playing catch-up

December 31, 2006 at 7:06 pm (Humor)

Okay, now I’m going through all the news I didn’t read all month.  My next post will probably read: Flash! John Bolton resigns as UN ambassador!

The last couple of weeks, I kept telling myself, “Just post something so they’ll know you’re still there!”

But then I’d think, “Hey!  Quit nagging me!  If I don’t feel like writing anything I won’t do it!  You’re not the boss of me!”  And so I didn’t post anything, just to prove that I can’t be pushed around.

I infuriate me, sometimes.  And the feeling is mutual.

Real quick…

December 30, 2006 at 11:23 pm (Sports)

I just finished watching the Giants-Redskins game on NBC.  Every time either team failed to convert on third down, the color man said, “They turn it over on downs.”  This is before they punted.

Is this new terminology?

At the end of the game the Redskins failed to convert a fourth down, and he said… nothing.  They just went to commercial.

It just aggravated me, is all.

Another idiotic quiz!

Where Should You Be New Year’s Eve?
created by MsMoly
Your Results:
Home Alone
Not everybody likes parties, and you’re one of those people. The noise, the closeness, the bad food, not your cup of tea. So you’re all set for a delightful evening at home with your cats and a carton of ice cream. Best of luck to you!

How ludicrous to think that you can ask someone four questions and determine what they’ll be doing on New Year’s Eve.  “Cats?”  I don’t have “cats.”  I have one cat.  Sheesh. Plus, my couch doesn’t even look like that.

I haven’t included a link to this quiz, for two reasons:

  1. Its accuracy is suspect.
  2. My sister thinks everything I link to is part of my own site.  So she happily divulges personal information and ends up joining dating services and such.  I don’t care, but her husband is growing concerned.  (Hey, Skinny!  I can’t vouch for the whole damn internet!)

Help the drunk get home

Just move the mouse left or right.  Remember, a small correction early is better than a large correction later.

Try it here.  It’s in German, but you’ll figure it out.

Note: comments from my darts teammates will be deleted.

I’m doing my best

December 13, 2006 at 1:07 am (Uncategorized)

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting more often.

Working in retail during December is rough, and–as usual–I’m sick, too.  Please bear with me.

I’ll be back after Christmas, and I’ll knock your socks off!  Or your money back!

Brutally Honest Personality Test

December 13, 2006 at 1:04 am (Weekly Quiz)

You can find the test here.

 My result:

Loser- INTP
26% Extraversion, 60% Intuition, 73% Thinking, 40% Judging
Talked to another human being lately? I’m serious. You value knowledge above ALL else. You love new ideas, and become very excited over abstractions and theories. The fact that nobody else cares still hasn’t become apparent to you…Nerd’s a great word to describe you, and I seriously couldn’t care less about the different definitions of the word and why you’re actually more of a geek than a nerd. Don’t pretend you weren’t thinking that. You want every single miniscule fact and theory to be presented correctly.Critical? Sarcastic? Cynical? Pessimistic? Just a few words to describe you when you’re at your very best…*cough* Sorry, I mean worst. Picking up the dudes or dudettes isn’t something you find easy, but don’t worry too much about it. You can blame it on your personality type now.On top of all this, you’re shy. Now, quickly go and delete everything about “theoretical questions” from your profile page. As long as nobody tries to start a conversation with you, just MAYBE you’ll now have a chance of picking up a date. But don’t get your hopes up.I am interested though. If a tree fell over in a forest, would it really make a sound?

The answer to the last question is of course, “it depends.”  You left out the pivotal clause!  Is there anyone there to hear it, or not?  I there is, then the answer is “yes.”  Now, if there were no one there to hear the tree falling over, the answer would be no.  The vibrations caused by the tree falling only become a sound when they are received and interpreted by a brain.  Until then, they remain vibrations in the air.

 Take that, stupid test!

I love PBS pledge drives

December 10, 2006 at 11:01 pm (Entertainment)

I’m a thrifty bastard.  I pay $17 per month for cable.  No HBO, MTV or TMC.  I don’t even get CNN or ESPN!  Just 23 channels (2-25, ch. 24 is the Cablevision channel).  It’s enough for me, and I’m satisfied.

I watch a lot of syndicated shows: Seinfeld, Simpsons, Everybody Loves Raymond, Bernie Mac, etc.  During prime time, though, nothing beats PBS.  Nature documentaries, Antiques Roadshow, Britcoms, Secrets of the Dead; I love them all.

So thank goodness for PBS pledge drives. Read the rest of this entry »

A response to edarrell

December 6, 2006 at 2:24 am (Science)

For the past four or five weeks in a row, I’ve promised a post about the state of knowledge regarding global warming.  What was the temperature in the past, what is it now, is it now out of the ordinary, etc.  It turns out, that’s hard work.  I may, in the future, break that subject down into short manageable pieces.

In the meantime, I posted a piece about a week ago about the lack of hurricanes hitting the U.S., and how embarrassed the weather forecasters should be.  It was a chest-beating post, but it caught the eye of one “edarrell”.  Go to the post and read the comments.

Back?  Good.  Edarrell proceeded to inform me of wild weather taking place all over the globe.  He or she seems to have a great talent for research.

Unfortunately, scientists never consider anecdotal evidence when they are trying to prove a claim.  edarrell may link to several posts about abnormal weather.  He (or

Back again.

December 2, 2006 at 12:33 pm (Religion, Weekly Quiz)

I haven’t been posting (or even online!) for the last couple of days because my cat and I have been under the weather.  He went to the vet yesterday and I’ve been taking my vitamins so we’re both on the mend, I think.

I’m kind of compulsive about surfing the web, so a break every now and then is probably healthy.  Anyway, I’ll be posting less frequently throughout the month of December, as it’s a busy time for me.  Maybe I’ll just stay offline every Friday, the way old-timey Catholics don’t eat meat.
